Understanding the CoreMed Catastrophic Health Insurance Plan
With the rising cost of health care, more and more individuals are turning to catastrophic health insurance as a way to save money while still protecting themselves in case of emergencies. One of the most popular catastrophic health insurance plans today are CoreMed from Assurant Health. This plan offer individuals a wide variety of health insurance coverage in exchange for a small monthly payment and a big deductible.
CoreMed Catastrophic Health Insurance
CoreMed is an insurance plan that gives you great coverage while still keeping your premiums low. With this plan, you can choose what doctors and hospitals you want, or you can pick from a list of approved medical facilities and save even more money. This plan offers many extras as well, allowing you to customize your health insurance to fit your needs.
With CoreMed, you are guaranteed your initial rates for up to two years. You may then choose to extend that rate for another year if you are satisfied with your coverage. Other benefits included in this coverage are:
- No need for referrals
- Coverage all over the world
- One deductible if your family is in an accident
- Coverage of non-excluded pre-existing conditions after 6 months of continuous coverage
- No limitations regarding the intensive care unit (ICU)
- Additional coverage, determined specifically by coinsurance and the amount of your deductible, for children under the age of 17 who suffer from severe mental illnesses
- A maximum lifetime benefit amount of up to six million dollars
CoreMed also offers patients the benefit of visiting the doctor’s office with it’s co-pay option. This option will allow you to see the doctor four times a year. The co-pay for each doctor’s visit will generally be about $35. Prescription coverage is also provided. Generic prescriptions can be purchased with only a $15 co-pay. Brand name prescriptions, however, may require up to a $25 co-pay and half of the coinsurance
With this plan, other services are also provided, such as emergency transportation by air life or ambulance, in-patient and out-patient hospital visits and surgeries, emergency room visits, rehabilitation services, and chiropractic services.
What is not covered by CoreMed Catastrophic Health Insurance?
Like many catastrophic health insurance plans, there are few medical situations that CoreMed does not cover. These may include:
- Maternity
- Drug abuse
- Cosmetic procedures
- Mental illnesses in adults
- Hearing care
- Vision care
- Fertility and infertility treatment
- Counseling
- Genetic testing

Finding the right health coverage in today’s world can be difficult. With CoreMed from Assurant Health, you can create a catastrophic health insurance plan to fit your specific health related and financial needs. This plan does not cover everything, of course, and you will be expected to pay for certain medical procedures out of your own pocket. Even with its limitations, though, this catastrophic health insurance will allow you to have peace of mind knowing that you are covered should an emergency occur.
